December 2007

Well, It's official! No amount of denial, teary-eyed protestations or creative visualizing can override the butt-numbing cold out there! I'm officially giving in. It's winter. There. I've said it! Bahhh...

So...yay! Winter! (This is me embracing it) what a perfect chance to stay in and write to YOU! If, hopefully, YOU haven't completely written me off! I've been a complete slug about writing on this here news page. Can I blame it on the rain? Yes. Let's do. Let's BLAME IT ON THE RAIN

But this is the news page....not the weather page. So. Moving right along!

I just shot two commercials! A Comedy Central Promo for Friday Night Stand-Up and a National spot for Dunkin' Donuts. Between you and me, I expected to be knee-deep in donuts at the DD shoot, but there wasn't a donut in sight! Which is probably for the best, because after about 2 or 3 Chocolate Honey Glazed, I probably would have lost all grip of reality and run off, crazed, into the hills on a sugar high. Still..at the very least, I think I'll treat myself to one soon.

Do you remember the video short, Cheating, I did about a year ago? No? Well, then please, do check it out on FunnyorDie or Youtube or Rejectedjokes tout de suite! If you answered yes....then you might be pleased to know, we shot a director's commentary version. You can watch it here

About 2 or 3 years ago, I was in a movie called "Serial". It has since picked up two awards at the Long Island Film Expo and one for Best Director at the 2007 annual Mockfest Awards. I had a blink and you'll miss it role, as Moira, but....check it out!

Allright enough about me....I could go on...but everyone has to get home so I won't ramble anymore.

But one last thing.....Happy Holidays to you and yours.... from me and mine!

Love,

Sarah

August 16, 2007

Well hello olde timers! Welcome back... I hope I'm not just talking to myself, here...sorry that I've been outrageously lazy about this news log! I've been busy....but who isn't?

I've got some news to share. Yay, News! Yay, Sharing!

Have you been watching Flight of the Conchords on HBO? If you answered yes, aces... If not, don't worry there's still time. Why not start this weekend....at say 10:30 pm EST? Why, you ask? Because I'm in this week's episode, "New Fans"! And because Flight of the Conchords is really funny.

If you're in NYC this weekend, I'll be performing in a new sketch show, "HALF EMPTY" this Saturday at 8pm. The details are below. So come check it out!

And finally, but certainly not least, the cast of the short film, and Youtube favorite, CHEATING just recorded a "directors commentary" for the short. So keep your eyes peeled. But not really. Because peeled eyeballs....Gross!

August 2006

Is it August already? My how the time flies...The summer has been good to me-I've been busy, working, auditioning and writing. And a lot has been been happening with my show, Slow Night !

Slow Night has been sailing along! In fact for the last two weeks, we have been listed in New York magazine, as an "Off-Off Broadway Pick!" That follows close on the heels of Am NY's choice of Slow Night as "Pick of the Week" (June 7) Pretty cool, right? We've been extended into August at the UCB Theatre. Our next two shows at the theatre are August 23rd and 30th, at 8pm. To find out more about the show, you can visit our little corner of the Internet at myspace.com/slownightshow .

And an interesting, exciting and unusual note about our cast member John Ward, who plays "Ernie" in Slow Night ...John was recently a contestant on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" Mum is the word on the outcome of the show, but you can check here for the show's airdate. It is definitely not to be missed-keep your eyes peeled for me in the audience...I went to the taping in my Slow Night costume...

Next up for Slow Night ...Margot and I will be bringing our characters from the show, "Janice" and "Dimitra", out on the town and into your homes! This Saturday August 19th , we'll be taking "Janice" and "Dimitra" to the variety show The Kissing Booth at The D Lounge (101 East 15th Street @ Union Square East, Basement Level of the DR2 Theaters) and on Monday August 21st we'll be appearing Live on the air with Joey Reynolds on 710 AM. Check your local listings for airtime.

So that's a lot of news about Slow Night ! Well, if you want to hear more about what I have been up to, please come back and I'll update you...but I just have to walk away from this website and head outdoors...it is so beautiful outside! Ahhh, there is NOTHING like August in NYC. Am I right? Seriously, people are hot and cranky and a little stinky out there but...that, which doesn't kill us, only makes us stronger...right? So next time someone flips you off on the subway...thank them for making you stronger!

(And then run...because that'll probably tick them off even more!)

Until we meet again, my pretties...thank you for stopping by!

Love,
Sarah

June 2006

Summer is almost here, and do I have news to share! I've been so busy since last I wrote. And I want to catch you up...
My new show, Slow Night, will be up and running weekly starting Wednesday June 7th, 8pm. Slow Night is the story of two career waitresses, Janice (Sarah Burns) and Dimitra (Margot Leitman) who have been working the overnight shift at the Golden Retriever Diner in New Jersey for six years. And until one storming and very slow night, neither ever wanted more. Faced with the opportunity to leave, the girls wonder does anyone ever truly get out of Jersey?
Our cast includes Eddie Dunn and Neil Casey; they're both so talented and funny! And features John Ward as "Ernie". Come check it out, we're at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, all month, baby!
If you want to make a reservation CLICKTHIS!
I recently shot a short video with my friend Ben Schwartz. Ben writes for SNL and David Letterman and is so fun to work with. You'll see why if you head to his website Rejected Jokes.com and scroll down to the May 15th, 2006 entry. It's called "Cheating" and stars Ben, myself and Greg Tuculescu. It was filmed and edited by Bill Buckendorf. Bill always does such a wonderful job and it was nice to get to work with him again-we haven't been coworkers since the days of My Wife The Ghost!
I just found out that the movie Serial will make it's wold premiere at the 2006 Long Island International Film Festival on July 16, 2006. I played Moira in this film, almost two years ago! Check out the Serial official website, if you please!

I have a bunch of projects in the works and many more things to share with you, but in this heat, don't you find it is better to just take things slowly? I do. So I won't bombard you with any more tidbits, until later.... But I will tell you this: as always you can download I Love the '30's and ALL ACCESS: Middles Ages on itunes.
iTunes-> Music Store-> Search Music Store: "Comedy Central"-> "Comedy Central Motherload Web shows"

Be good my pretties! Thank you for visiting my website...

April 6, 2006

Oh my goodness! It has been over a month since I have updated my news page! Well, I have been busy and there is much to tell. Most pressing of course, is that a turkey ran wild in the streets of NYC today. So, I'm imagining that the wild turkey jokes will be the new "in thing" this week. I'm just saying.
And...finally!!!, my show, SLOW NIGHT is premiering this Monday, next! Some of you may have heard me talking about it, endlessly, for the past few months. And some of you may not have seen me for the past few months...guess why? When I was not busy blathering on about my show, I was actually working on said show! So come see it and life will be grand.
I wrote SLOW NIGHT with Margot Leitman, comedienne extraordinaire-perhaps you know her stand-up or you have seen her on tv. She's terribly funny and very sparkly! We've based our show on our experiences waiting tables, working dead-end jobs and growing up on Long Island and in New Jersey.
Here are the details:
SLOW NIGHT
Starring Sarah Burns, Margot Leitman, Neil Casey and Eddie Dunn as "Eddie". Plus a very special guest.
Directed by Neil Casey
Monday April 10th 8pm at Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre
307 W. 26th Street at 8th Avenue
$5
SLOW NIGHT
there's nothing worse than working the night shift...for six years at the same diner...in New Jersey

And in other news: you can see me again on Comedy Central's Motherload and download it on iTunes. iTunes, dudes, that's hightech!

Whether you have a Mac or not, you can also download the first episode off of  iTunes.
iTunes->Music Store-> Search Music Store: "Comedy Central" -> "Comedy Central Motherload Web Shows"
or  download I Love The 30's. It's up on iTunes. You can download it and write a review!

So that's exciting, but there's more! My new improv ensemble, UCB Harold Team, KILL YOUR DARLINGS, had its debut performance on Tuesday April 4th. We'll be performing again Tuesday April 18th at 8pm. In related news the shoves had it's last show as a UCB Harold Team on March 28th. Most of the lineup had been together for over three years, so in improv terms we were 1,00 years old. Thank you to everyone who came to the show.
Well, I won't let as much time pass again to update you with the goods. There is much to talk about and a lot coming up. But that my friends, is for another round of drinks. Till then...
xoxo

February 27, 2006

Hello happy lovelies...it's Monday. What a weekend, I'm exhausted. But not fatigued enough to leave you out of the loop!
The rehearsal process has begun. Yesterday the cast of  "Slow Night" met for our first read through. "Slow Night" is the show that Margot Leitman and I have been writing since the Fall. We worked out much of the plot whilst standing in the freezing cold this December. Did I mention that Margot got me a job at the Holiday Market in Union Square this year? Thanks Margot-I really owe you one. Grrr....
Moving right along. We're excited about the show and willl be debuting our characters, Janice and Dimitra, this Thursday at Rififi with Nick Kroll and John Mulaney. I will keep you posted about the show as it develops. We are still waiting for Jay Mohr and his soda can to commit, so I don't want to say too much. Still, if you are curious...check us out at Rififi.
And Tuesday means Harold Night for me. Tomorrow night I'll be performing with the shoves at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. Come to the show...it's pump your fist in the air good times.
I am trying to figure out how to create a little pop-up thing for my website, so that when you arrive at this here NEWS page you'll automatically be met by a calendar of my upcoming performances and shows. Until then, I'll have to tell you outright.
So it is on this note, that I say good day. I said, GOOD DAY!

February 20, 2006

I have been trying so very hard to avoid watching the ice dancing competitions in the Olympics, but I find them both repellent and seductive at once. So it is in this self imposed struggle that I write.
After months of being in development with Comedy Central, the network has decided to pass on My Wife The Ghost. It is currently being looked at by other networks. Keep your fingers crossed, as we're hoping to resurrect Jim, Sally and the whole cast!
I hope I haven't brought the room down. Don't despair, I have good news, old chums. Tomorrow night, I'll be performing at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre with The Shoves as part of  Harold Night. And our old friend and former cast member Brett Christensen, will be there to join us onstage.
Until next time...

February 14, 2006

Hello, comrades! Welcome to the Sarahburns.com…your home away from home.  I am really excited about my website, and I hope you like it. My friend Rachel McIntosh created it for me…let’s hear it for Rachel!

This is the news page, where movers and/or shakers will come to find out what I am working on, where I am performing and with whom.  Also, occasionally I’ll write something insightful and if I do…I’ll write it here. And maybe, I don't know...there will be press...like tons of press and I won't have any room left to jam my clippings into the already overflowing storage unit I rent for press clippings and I'll, you know-no fuss, maybe begin storing it electronically and paste it here. You know, real casual, like.

So...news.
The creators of  I Love The '30's are at work again! And I just finished shooting more bits for Comedy Central's Motherload Network with them. Keep your eyes peeled for the newest show...All Access: Middle Ages and my character Lucretia Dans Lascaux.

Until we meet again, my pretties...
